London Grub

from fish n chips to high tea

England may not be somewhere thats known for its amazing chow but as always I made sure to do my research on where the best places to eat [and take pictures, of course] were. My version of research may be stalking travel blogger's instagrams and city hashtags but it rarely disappoints. Here are our recommendations for where to go and what to order in this incredible city.

Sketch london

Might as well start with one of the best [and one of the most expensive]. Sketch London is THE place for high tea. It is somewhat Wonderland-esque and full of whimsy. If you are ever in London, go. Its worth it to see the amazing collection of differently themed rooms and browse their selection of teas. Also don't forget to snag a picture in the bathroom. You haven't really been to London if you don't have a selfie in the Sketch bathroom. Its a room filled with egg shaped pods and rainbow colored tiles. The pods are really just fancied up porta-john type stalls but hey its super cool regardless. Peep the pix below. We opted for the afternoon tea and decided to finish it off with glasses of champagne. Tea comes with an adorable selection of finger sammies, cakes and pudding. Now I wouldn't say I'm a picky eater but if its got mayonnaise or onions, get it away from me. But I put on my big girl panties and tasted everything that came our way. They also allow you to request more of anything on the tower if you so please.

the ivy chelsea garden

Sadly our pictures do this place no justice. But peep their insta and you will easily see why I added this place to our list. Breakfast was exceptional especially the broiled grapefruit but i’m a sucker for anything involving grapefruit. Definitely recommend but do bring a nicer quality camera than my iPhone 6 [I am wayyyy behind the times rn].

Muriel's

Luckily for us this adorable spot was only about a ten minute walk from our airbnb and it was literally right outside the South Kensington tube station. So Muriel's made the perfect spot to stop and scoop brekkie before heading into the city. They were usually decently crowded but worth the few minute wait. The coffee was phenomenal as were all the breakfast options that we tried.

Restaurant ours

In all honesty, I added this to our list solely for the bathroom. It is insta worthy af. But the food left me wanting to come back every night of our trip. Get a bit posh and go spend hours sipping on their freaking fabulous cocktails [uh hello.. that one is in a rose gold pineapple with real flowers #doitforthegram] and sharing plates of food. Pretty sure Britt and I ordered around six dishes to share. What can I say? We are fatties at heart and everything sounded so delish. Get the lamb and then go selfie in that bathroom.

bumpkin

Bumpkin was the first place we stumbled into upon arriving in London. And boy did it not disappoint. Every ingredient seemed beyond fresh and the dishes were exceptionally put together. Also britt quite enjoyed their mule if you’re looking for a bev recommendation.

cereal killer cafe

Some serious insta stalking led me to this cafe of nostalgia. They have almost every cereal you could ever remember from your childhood plus loads more and even an insane selection of Poptarts. 'Hey Arnold' played on the television next to us while we sat on vintage bedcovers and consumed our personally crafted breakfast mixtures. Pick your base, your milk and all the toppings. Fosho Go.

must try extras

  • go to a market and try the to die for fresh fruits, veggies and fresh made paella

  • get a pimms cup cocktail

  • find somewhere with a traditional brit brekkie [baked beans is a must]

  • ask a local where to try the fish and chips
